In Fall 2012, the Bayou District Foundation is launching a nationally recognized early childhood learning center, Educare of New Orleans.
Educare Centers in the US have earned a reputation for excellent early childhood learning and for promoting school readiness with proven success. The Educare of New Orleans facility will serve 150 children from low income families, ages six weeks to five years old.
The center will offer a full-day, full-year program in order to ensure an intensity of services that research and experience have proven to be most effective in narrowing the achievement gap for school readiness at Kindergarten.
In partnering with JLNO, Bayou District's Educare Center will offer a variety of opportunities for league members to take an active role in the progress of students within the classroom. Classroom aides will assist teaching staff members with classroom activities including social, recreation and academic activities of the day.
Volunteers will work alongside the staff, supervising the children's activities and interacting with the children and staff during classroom instruction and outside play activities. Volunteers may read to the children, assist with writing activities and participate in community and parent engagement activities.
Individuals with musical skills will assist with musical expression by putting on concerts or creating interactive music demonstrations. Bilingual volunteers will assist with foriegn language instruction to the children. While the primary purpose of this placement is to work with the children in the Educare program.
