Welcome to the Junior League of New Orleans website!
Our legacy of Building a Greater New Orleans began almost 93 years ago when a group of 10 women met in one of their homes to discuss the formation of a chapter of the rapidly growing Association of Junior Leagues of America. They gathered like thinking women who wanted to make positive change in our city and, in 1924, were admitted to membership. Since then, the Junior League of New Orleans has grown to almost 2,200 members, and we are the 8th largest League among 292 in the Association of Junior Leagues International.
What has remained consistent over these 92 years is the dedication of women to making lasting positive and impactful change in our community. In the past five years, JLNO has invested more than $3 million dollars and approximately 250,000 volunteer hours in Metropolitan New Orleans. With our new focus area of Advancing the Wellbeing of Women, we are reaching out to other women to positively impact them in the areas of economic, mental and physical, and family wellbeing. Since women comprise 52% of the population of New Orleans and 20% of households are female led, we hope that by focusing our efforts on this population we can effect lasting change.
We are continually exploring ways to develop our new focus area into projects like our Diaper Bank, which collected over 200,000 diapers this year, and our brand new Financial Literacy for Women project, which will be launched in 2017-2018.
Please explore our website to discover more about the Junior League of New Orleans! I welcome you to attend one of our many fundraisers, learn and advocate for our community projects, and visit our thrift store Bloomin’ Deals to support our mission of promoting voluntarism and developing the potential of women.
