JLNO raises money for its community projects and mission-related training through three single-event fundraisers and five businesses. Members plan and execute all facets of these ventures, including securing sponsorships and donations, managing budgets, promoting participation, and organizing staffing and logistics.
Bloomin’ Deals Thrift Shop is JLNO’s largest source of funding with just over $500,000 in annual gross revenue. JLNO established the thrift shop as a permanent fundraiser in 1927. The shop was initially located on Royal Street in the French Quarter and found its current home on Freret Street in 1960. Members volunteer approximately 6,100 hours per year to assist with staffing the store. The store stocks a large selection of new and gently-used adult and children’s clothing and shoes, housewares, and seasonal items. Bloomin’ Deals was recently recognized by Gambit Weekly as one of the top three thrift shops in New Orleans.
- Freret 5K, October 15, 2016 – In the six years of presenting a 5K run/walk, JLNO has found that it not only raises money but also positively affects the health of the community. The family friendly fitness event on Freret Street promotes the commercial and cultural revitalization of that neighborhood.
- Girls Night Out, December 1, 2016 – Revel in a GNO for GNO! Girls Night Out is the newest event from JLNO and proceeds benefit women and families in the Greater New Orleans region.
- Touch a Truck, March 25, 2017 – With the purchase of a single ticket or group discount for a large family, children and adults receive an up-close look at their favorite “big trucks” and the opportunity to meet the people that protect, serve, and build Metropolitan New Orleans.
