OPEN HOUSE FOR PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Junior League of New Orleans, we invite you to attend one of our Open House events to learn more about our organization. This year’s Get to Know JLNO Open Houses will be held at JLNO Headquarters located at 4319 Carondelet Street on:
Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 6:30 pm and Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 6:30 pm

The Junior League of New Orleans is very pleased that you have taken an interest in us. JLNO is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Eligibility Requirements:
- A candidate for membership must be between 25 and 45 years of age at the time of her admission on May 31, 2010.
- A candidate must have resided in the New Orleans area, defined as those locations within a 40-mile radius of the main New Orleans post office, for at least one year prior to her proposal for membership. Attendance at a New Orleans school by an out-of-town student does not constitute such residence.
- A candidate should be able to fulfill the Provisional course requirements, which are briefly summarized below.
- A candidate must possess an interest in voluntarism and a commitment to community service.
Admission Process:
- An official Sponsor Group shall sponsor each prospective member. A Sponsor Group must consist of two members, one of whom must be Active member. If you need assistance identifying a Sponsor Group, please call JLNO at (504) 891-5845
- The members of the Sponsor Group shall complete the Sponsor-Candidate Agreement, which must be signed by both Sponsors and the Candidate. The completed Sponsor-Candidate Agreement must be returned to JLNO Headquarters by the date and time specified by the Admission/Provisional Chair.
- After a prospective member has been informed of her proposed membership, she shall accept membership with her execution of the Provisional Contract, which must be completed and returned to JLNO Headquarters, along with the prospective member’s dues and fees, by the date and time specified by the Admissions/Provisional Chair
- A provisional member will be required to fulfill the obligations of membership to the Junior League of New Orleans and the Provisional Course during the JLNO year which runs from June 1 to May 31. Once a provisional member has completed the Provisional Course, she will become an active member.
Membership Requirements:
- Provisional Welcome Party
- JL 101 and JL 102 Informational Sessions
- Four (4) General Meetings
- Provisional Placement (ten (10) shifts at JLNO’s Bloomin’ Deals Thrift Shop and two (2) shifts at JLNO Headquarters)
- Community Experience (two (2) shifts with a JLNO community project or activity)
- Fundraiser Experience (one (1) shift at a JLNO fundraiser)
- Cookbook Experience (one (1) shift staffing a cookbook sales event or creating a recipe for a cookbook tasting event)
- Teambuilding and Leadership Experience (participation in a team project developed and led by the provisional class)
- Financial Requirements include annual dues and rummage donation to the Thrift Shop
- Participation in JLNO fundraising events
