The Junior League of New Orleans sincerely appreciates the generous support for the 10th Annual Kitchen Tour featuring the House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year. On May 2 and 3, nearly 1100 people appreciated thoughtful design and craftsmanship, and the event raised $45,000 for JLNO’s community projects that Advance the Wellbeing of Women in Metropolitan New Orleans.
The 2015 Kitchen Tour had the unique opportunity to host the 8th Annual Kitchen of the Year presented by House Beautiful. Presented for the first time in New Orleans, the Kitchen of the Year was the dream American kitchen designed by renowned Ken Fulk of San Francisco and built in a classic 1850s Uptown home. It was the perfect complement to the 10 splendid homes on the tour. They ranged from traditional to eclectic with pops of color and intriguing details. These spaces provide functionality for entertaining and are inspired by the homes’ histories and homeowners’ interests.
Style and innovation aren’t the only compelling aspects of JLNO’s Kitchen Tour. Visiting the hearts of people’s homes benefits the heart of the community. Proceeds from this event support JLNO’s mission and community impact. As Sean Sullivan, Associate Publisher and Group Marketing Director of Elle Décor, House Beautiful, and Veranda, said in his announcement to the membership, “we are glad to be working with the Junior League of New Orleans because of all the wonderful work that you do in the community. We admire the civic-minded spirit and everything you do – the leadership and the programs for kids and families.”
Because of this, House Beautiful and their Kitchen of the Year sponsors have generously donated materials to renovate the kitchen at JLNO’s Headquarters. Ken Fulk’s San Francisco-based team modeled our “Get the Look” kitchen after the Kitchen of the Year. This kind bequest serves as a lasting contribution to the community as a host location for trainings, cultural events, and speaking engagements.
