To supplement our children’s education programs with career skills, JLNO partners with Lemonade Day to teach youth how to start, own, and operate their own business – a lemonade stand.
Lemonade Day University takes place every April and is free for children ages 8 to 12. The Lemonade Day University curriculum helps children prepare for Lemonade Day. The half-day course covers the following:
- Learn How to Make Healthy Lemonade
- Organize Your Business Plan and Budget
- Develop Success Strategies
- Market Your Lemonade Stand
- Register for the May Lemonade Day
Registration for the next session will open in early Spring.
About Lemonade Day
Over 150,000 kids in 36 cities across America and Canada participate in this free, fun experiential program. JLNO members volunteer at registration sites and coordinate with New Orleans and state Lemonade Day leaders to promote and serve as a distribution site for the supplies the participants need for their businesses.
Lemonade Day is typically the first day in May with registration beginning early in the year. Each child that registers receives a backpack with an Entrepreneur Workbook that teaches them the 14 lessons of Lemonade Day. These include creating budgets, setting profit-making goals, serving customers, repaying investors, and giving back to the community. In addition to enhancing their math calculations, reading comprehension, and communications skills, participants develop financial literacy, critical thinking, civic responsibility, customer service, problem solving, presentation skills, leadership, personal productivity, self-direction, social responsibility, social skills, and self confidence. They keep all the money they make and are encouraged to spend some, save some, and share some.
Lemonade Day empowers youth to take ownership of their lives and become productive members of society – the business leaders, social advocates, volunteers, and forward thinking citizens of tomorrow.
